Second of all, it is just plain weak in the motor dept. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple extra bucks and get a Krups. First of all, the capacity is very small. It just grinds and grinds and grinds but never gets the coffee fine enough.
This little guy out does its job for its price. I wouldn't even be ashamed to buy this as a gift for someone.PROS: Makes 8 shots of expresso, quiet, easy to clean, compact, grinding done in less than 30 sec.CONS: Makes 8 shots of expresso, need to shake or angle for finer grinding(not for a lazy or pampered person) I was soo skeptical about this itty-bitty $10 mechanism, but man. Well it's free to me because I'm not spending any of my own money from the gift card. Needed a grinder so I decided to see if they had any there. I'm hurting a bit financially for the moment, but I had a gift card to Burlington Coat Factory. This was the ONLY ONE that they had. What a surprise.
Really hard to get fine grind for automatic drip. I think I'll go back to my cheaper Toastmaster grinder that far surpasses this one. You have to retract it yourself by turning the grinder over and over. So I have to keep emptying and grinding more and more to make a full pot of coffee. Lastly, it is extremely messy.
The most I've fit in for grinding is four tablespoons. Hard to get even coarse french press grind. The retractable cord is deceiving. There is no way to open the lid, after grinding, without spilling coffee all over the counter. First of all, it barely grinds anything.
The grind itself is horrible - big chunks. I thought that part would be electric.
It is not a large grinder, but I find the two sets of grinds will give me the amount of coffee I like for a pot of coffee. Three years of pretty close to daily use for $14 is a good deal for me. I bought my first one just over three years ago in 2006 and it has worked great. While my current one is still functioning fine, I am purchasing a replacement as the cord is becoming frayed as it rubs when it is put back in the base.
Its compact size is what I was looking for and it is priced really good. Works good for me. This is perfect for my everyday grinding use. I actually use it more for grinding spices than coffee.
